The Healthy South Merced project focuses on preventative health issues and civic engagement in the South Merced community where established neighborhoods have fallen victim to a negative stigma and have few resources available to them.  Golden Valley Health Centers and the Merced/Mariposa County Asthma Coalition along with the Public Health Department and Central California Regional Obesity Prevention Program (CCROPP) are working together to capitalize on the strong sense of community within neighborhoods to improve the health and well-being of these residents through a variety of activities.  If you live and/or work in South Merced please join us!  We need your input!

Resident-identified concerns/activities that will be addressed are: the establishment of a weekly walking group starting in 2009, community movie nights, smoking cessation classes, gang awareness education, increase frequency, capacity and membership of neighborhood watch groups, improving services/access to parks, along with other priorities.

Please add your ideas for South Merced here and contact the Asthma Coalition office to get more involved: (209) 385-5490.
