Having Our Say
About this group
The Having Our Say coalition represents low-income, uninsured communities of color throughout the state. The coalition was established in 2007 in response to the Governor’s declaration that it was “the year of health care reform.” The founding organizations, the California Pan-Ethnic Health Network, the California Immigration Policy Center, and the Latino Issues Forum, identified a need for a multicultural coalition to ensure that the needs of communities of color would be addressed in the health care reform proposals. In a short time, the coalition grew to over 30 organizations advocating on behalf of immigrant, limited English proficient, African American, Native American, Asian and Pacific Islander, and Latino communities. Currently, the coalition consists of over 50 organizations representing grassroots community organizations, advocacy organizations, and immigrant rights groups throughout the state.
